Well, I couldnt think of a title so thats what i put. Now I'm just going to type and try to make it something to do with the title.
Well, the second week of school has been alright so far. Yesturday (Tuesday) was make Jon angry day. To start off we had troubs. All I'll say in this post about that is that the songs seem like they are trying to see how fast we can sing things in church and maybe if we look at it a certain way will be about anything having to do with worship. Chapel led by Bangert. Normally I wouldnt need to say more but I feel like talking about it. His whole message was about how WE need to remove sin from our life. How sin gets in the way of everything so WE need to stop sinning. I think he tried to save himself by saying We cant do it, but WE need to. He ended the message with something along the lines of "Now lets take off our sin" or stop sinning or something like that. Yay now I know at least I'm going to hell because I cant stop sinning and I cant remove my sin. Wow that sucks.
Also, recently I was looking through Hales Corners Website. I will spare most of you and only go into one thing. In the Media section on one of the sundays there was a "Post-Message" song. It was Time after Time. Now, Im not sure how many of you are familiar with that song but its a secular 80's song. Now I dont know much on "fun" worship or "popular" worship. So, can someone please tell me if this has any point to being sung in church. If it has a point. Can you tell me how its respectful. On that topic how is most CCM that sung in church, even if its not heretical, respectful. No matter what people think WORSHIP IS NOT ABOUT US! So why all these songs with I and me. Even if its somethign like "Lord, I praise YOU" Why does the Lord even notice "praise" from a sinful person. I put praise in parenthesis because can we even praise God on our own?
Dont get me wrong we should praise God but why not with hymns like "All Praise to thee, Eternal God" or "Of the Fathers Love Begotten" which is where I got the title and will be posted at the end of this. Look at verse 4.
So I think i did a pretty good job tying in the title. I have a feeling that I will get comments on this post.
I know its a christmas hymn but still it fits in well.
Of the Father's Love Begotten.
TLH 98
Of the Father’s love begotten, ere the worlds began to be,
He is Alpha and Omega, He the source, the ending He,
Of the things that are, that have been,
And that future years shall see, evermore and evermore!
O that birth forever blessèd, when the virgin, full of grace,
By the Holy Ghost conceiving, bare the Savior of our race;
And the Babe, the world’s Redeemer,
First revealed His sacred face, evermore and evermore!
O ye heights of heaven adore Him; angel hosts, His praises sing;
Powers, dominions, bow before Him, and extol our God and King!
Let no tongue on earth be silent,
Every voice in concert sing, evermore and evermore!
This is He whom Heaven-taught singers
Sang of old with one accord;
Whom the Scriptures of the prophets
Promised in their faithful word.
Now He shines, the Long-expected;
Let creation praise its Lord
Evermore and evermore.
Christ, to Thee with God the Father, and, O Holy Ghost, to Thee,
Hymn and chant with high thanksgiving, and unwearied praises be:
Honor, glory, and dominion,
And eternal victory, evermore and evermore!

Our pastor told us it was a secular song, but it totally pertained to his sermon. You are so negative about our church. You don't even go there, so why do you care?
Hm... Perhaps because supposably im in fellowship with you being in the LCMS so I basicaly am communing with you. Every Sunday. Perhaps your "pastors" should read through the Book of Concord sometime which is what they said to be the correct inturpretation of scripture. Your good with bible verses im pretty sure it says somewhere to not be of this world. Secular song, in church. Hm.. sounds pretty worldly to me. How's that for negative.
If you're lost you can look, you will find me.
If you fall, I'll catch you, i'll be waiting?
What's wrong with that? God will always be with us and help us, even when we fall away from him. Yes, it's a secular song, but the words are really powerful. It's not like they're disrespcting God or swearing.
Um. Hello? Its talking about an earthy relationship. It has nothing to do with God. Hm.. Comparing God to some teenager in "love" (which is essentially what its doing) right thats not disrespectful at all.
"If you're lost you can look, you will find me." Hm.. If im lost I can find Jesus? I thought He comes to me through the Spirit?
Yeah, well you can interpret it different ways. What about the song, I once was lost, but now am found. and Luke 19:10, for the Son of Man came to seek and save what was lost."
And you're saying the only way we can "praise" God is by singing hymns?
Yes, JESUS seeking us. We did nothing but get lost in the first place. Actually I think I said that our praises would be worth nothing if it werent for Christ. "My works are as filthy rags" The only way God sees good in us is through Jesus.
Numerous refereces in the Bible say, "Sing joyfully to the Lord; I will sing and make music; Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs; etc. It doesn't say, "Only sing hymns." We don't always sing CCM, usually there's a mixture, but we are praising God and so what if they're not hymns? God knows what's on our hearts and what we mean. The lyrics to most songs that we sing are powerful and have a good message. They're not just "fluff."
BTW, i have nothing against hymns. There are a lot of good ones. I just our style better.
The yes wasnt to answer the only hymns to praise God. If I find CCM that isnt either lacking in content or the emphasis is on us (If I havent mentioned it, WE CAN DO NOTHING GOOD)I will have no problem with it. I even own a Lost and Found CD most of their songs are alright. Lets get a troubs song.
"People from every nation and tounge from generation to generation, We worship You Hallelujah Hallelujah. We worship You for who You are and You are good"
Do you notice how it doesnt say who the You is? Say theres a person visting your church who knows nothing about God. They might think that You is the pastor or some other person, or Allah or Buddah for that matter. Its not clear. "A Mighty Fortress" Shows who God is and what he has done for us. Most CCM songs put the emphasis on us. Its all about what we are doing. Tell me if you see the word I in "A Mighty Fortress" We can have songs where the entire emphasis is on God, where we do nothing. It is all his doing for us.
Now this is long and i dont want to type anymore.
In response to Susan's comment about Mr. Bangert, Mr. Doerr and Mr. Loveless go to Hales Corners, too, and Mr. Doerr is an awesome theology teacher and Mr. Loveless is a godly man-i'm not saying he is God. So don't assume that everyone who goes to Hales Corners doesn't know anything about God.
I will not go into the theology of Doerr or Loveless until they publically say something that is bad enough for me to rant about. I like both these men. (Although loveless can be really boring) Mr. Doerr is one of the best teachers at ML. Even he has said things about what hales corners has become.
Yeah. I definetly agree w/ both of you on that one. I know our church isn't perfect, but they haven't said anything contradictory to my faith, so i still hold true to my opinions.
By the way, today was Fan Appreciation day at Hales Corners. I hope y'all didn't miss Pastor Mike bobblehead last Sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
take that Hell's Corners
