Awesome Post I saw.

I saw this post about contemperary worship on the Higher Things Forums.

I think some youth *do* want a more contemporary service. It just depends on the churches they go to... I have friends that love contemporary worship. Some of them are Baptist, some are Pentecostal, and some are Assemblies of God. They think that worship without that "buzz" is useless. I find that most people who appreciate church for reasons other than the Gospel have a different understanding of what worship is (it's purpose) than Lutherans do. I'd say that contemporary worship isn't attractive to me as a youth because God never promised that He'd come to us through our families, or our friends, or music, or emotions, etc. He promised to come through His Word and Sacraments.Contemporary worship may give some people an emotional high, but what do you leave with? What do you leave with when you use the Liturgy? When you look at contemporary worship, and then look at the Liturgy, contemporary worship forms seem a little void of the Gospel. Since the Gospel is what I go to church to hear and receive, I can't appreciate contemporary worship. With the Liturgy, no matter how depressed I get, or how happy I am, the Word is still there. If I relied on my emotions for the worship service, I'd be in pretty sad shape. Again, if I went to church because of my friends or family, and then my friends/family left, what would I be left with? Not the Gospel. I will say that my family has had an influence- First, by taking me to the Baptismal font as an infant, and secondly, by reading and teaching me Scripture... But then, is it them reading it to me, or God working through the Word being read?
